Jane Seymour says she loves being an 'independent woman'

Jane Seymour has revealed she loves being an ‘independent woman’ now after previously deferring to her husband for advice on her career.

The former Bond girl, 71, who has been married three times, said she learned through her last divorce that she can ‘do it myself’, like her new character in detective series Harry Wild. 

Speaking to , she said: ‘I always deferred to my husband for advice, even though it was my career and I was earning money.

‘What I’ve learnt since the last divorce is that I can do it myself. So life changed a lot nine years ago, and I’m a lot more like my new character, Harry.

‘I run my own life, I run my own businesses, I produce my own movies and make my own choices. I am very fortunate to have a partner who is super-smart.’

Jane has been in a relationship with producer David Green for the last eight years and said the couple have no plans to get married.

The actress said she and David’s relationship works well as it is and neither of them want to ‘mess’ with it.

Jane’s first marriage was to Michael Attenborough from 1971 to 1973 and she was then briefly married to his friend Geoffrey Planer from 1977 to 1978.

The star then tied the knot with David Flynn in 1981, with the former couple having children Katherine, 40, and Sean, 36. 

Jane and David split in 1992 and the actress married actor James Keach the following year, with the pair having twins John and Kristopher, 26.

Jane and James announced they were parting ways in December 2013 with their divorce finalised two years later. 

Speaking previously to DailyMail.com, Jane described her divorces as ‘painful’ and ‘depressing’, but believes they’ve made her a better person in the long run. 

She told the site: ‘The sooner you can accept it, the better for you and others.

‘And then when you look out cheap flights from pvd to chs yourself and look around to see what other people are suffering or challenged by, you realize what you have is minimal compared to other people’s challenges.

‘And so for me, I was really brought up to see what I could do for others, because that would give me a sense of purpose. When I had a sense of purpose, I was able then to deal with what I had to deal with.’

The UK native is typically glamorous, but is going rogue for her new role in Dublin-based mystery Harry Wilde, in which she plays the eponymous professor turned private investigator character. 

The actress rose to fame as Bond girl ‘Solitaire’, in the 1973 film Live and Let Die, alongside Roger Moore as the MI5 agent, before taking the US by storm and starring in multiple films and TV shows including Dr Quinn Medicine Woman.
